The aircraft used was G-BZEC which had a new engine installed which coupled with great weather = a great flight. The weather for aerodromes (ATZ) is put into a simple easy to read format, this was Lydds on the day of my flight:
EGMD 060920Z 18608KT CAVOK 17/12 Q1026
The above shows the airport code of EGMD, the date was the 6th at 09:20am, the wind at that point was 186° off the runway at 8knots. CAVOK means Ceiling and visibility OK and this means that there is no clouds and visibility more then 10k in all directions. The temp was 17 and the dew point was 12.
So perfect conditions for flying.
The rule for PPL students flying solo is that they should not fly if wind is more then 9kt crosswind at the aerodrome and must be more then 10 kilometres visibility (But this can change for each school).
The flight itself had taken me via Tenterton, 6 miles north of Lydd and 4 south west of Ashford kent as this has great visual points like the Heathfield Masks at 800ft AMSL and Bewl Water. It also helps missing out a glider site en-route which is something that shouldn’t be crossed unless you have to.
On the return I only had to go via Rye and then it’s a long straight flight, 40nm, to Shoreham which takes you over a lot of open green land so good in flight time keeping, keeping to headings and height is importnat and looking at the bigger picture helps to.
The overall flight was a success with the weather, the plane and overall flying.
Next up my Qualifying Cross Country (Shoreham, Manston & Southend)
